Archaeology goes live

The Department of Archaeology's new website went live in the Web CMS this afternoon.

The site contains well over 1000 pages, making it one of the larger projects to be completed so far, and includes the Department's extensive staff and student intranet.

Much of the content migration was done by one of the Web Office migration assistants, Steve Newman. He was allocated to work on the site for five weeks, allowing more time for Matthew Collins and Aleks McClain to manage the project, take editorial decisions and coordinate work within the Department.

With such an extensive site, everyone needed to do their bit! Over the last two months, 26 members of the Department have been trained and this should make maintenance an easier task.

Music goes live

The Department of Music's new web pages have gone live using the Web CMS.

Music's content is now split across two servers, with most of the public-facing website now on YorkWeb while their concerts streaming service continues to be run from Music's own server.

York Environmental Sustainability Institute site live

A brand new CMS-powered site for the York Environmental Sustainability Institute (YESI) went live earlier this week. The site brings together all the environmental research and teaching which takes place across the University, covering work from the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Environment and Social and Political Sciences.

Visualizing the last six months of work

A few of us in the office use the Tick time tracking application to keep track of what we're working on. I recently noticed that it was possible to export all the data it held into a handy Excel file (mmm, data) for further analysis. So it was a logical next step to take that data and create a Wordle word cloud out of it. Here's what has been keeping me busy for the last six months:
